What kind of music do you play?
Probably the most commonly asked question of Cullen DeChant and Rahsaan “Wordslave” Eldridge. The usual response is a rock-paper-scissors retort of “who’s turn is it?” between the co-founding members of Honest Lee Soul.
The band was formed in 2017 in Annapolis, MD, and has enjoyed success playing throughout the DMV area. With roots in soul, blues, funk, hip-hop, gospel, and rock, we are ever expanding our sound and reach.
As time went on, the band’s sound expanded and we added Reggie Maddox on bass, Kirk Meyers on keys and Devin Brown on drums. Once that core band was formed, we released our first full-length album One Life in April, 2022.
In November 2023, HLS released our second full-length album, Testify with two singles, You and Testify being released earlier that year.
We’re proud to have been voted Best Blues Band by the MD Music Awards in 2024.
In 2025, HLS was awarded a Rammie for Best Local Show of the Year by Rams Head on Stage.
We also released two singles in 2025; Where Do You Want Me and what quickly became a crowd favorite, Put Some Stank On It.
When the situation calls for it, we can perform as a duo or trio for more intimate settings, or bring the big band for larger occasions but whatever the configuration, the goal is the same; Make ‘em feel something. Make ‘em move.
